Nidecker Megalight
Nidecker is a brand that doesn't get much attention. With snowboards like the Nidecker Megalight, they are bound to be receiving more attention in the future. The Nidecker Megalight is a light stiff powder/freeride snowboard. The Megalight is made for steep, fast lines in the deep stuff. The board features a stiff wood core with carbon stringers and kevlar strips to increase dampening. The board also features 20mm of taper to keep you from sinking into the pow.
People compare the Nidecker Megalight to the Salomon Burner or Burton Malolo. People say this is truly a stiff, fast board but not too stiff for pulling off a 720! Riders say the board is also incredibly responsive and very lightweight. Several riders with 10+ years of riding say this is their favorite board ever! Now that is high praise. The Nidecker Megalight only comes in black and in sizes: 158, 163, 163W and 167W.

I bought a Nidecker Megalight last season and was very impressed with it because of its many features. You get a great speedboost when coming out of a nice carve-turn because of its very directional shape and handles very stable at high speeds on the piste. The Megalight has a prolonged nose and tail which offer more floating surface when you go Off-piste into the powder. This allowed me to go faster and kept me going on those flat powder spots.
I highly recommend the Megalight if your looking for a great freeride experience on the piste and in the powder.

Owned an original Nidecker Mega Light 167cm (Silver/grey & black)and this board literally stepped me up to the steep and deep at Mammoth Mt. Super fast and smooth through any snow. Now ride Never Summer T5 and Steepwater only comp. for Mega Light (though heavier). Gave my Nidecker to a good friend to enjoy (his 1st board).Would buy another and highly recommend for advanced/deep powder riders.Pt

I rode this board a couple of times and while it was very fast and responsive I wasn’t crazy about it. It was a little too jittery which I felt was a problem in chunkier snow or powder that had been chopped up. I ride a Nidecker carving board so I am used to very responsive and fast boards but this one felt hyper-responsive to the point of being jittery. I ended up getting the Nidecker Legend which is, in my opinion, far superior.

I was lucky enough to rent a Megalight Demo Board a couple of years ago. The next day I was at the same boardshop buying my own Mega. This board is great. Super light and responsive. My only complaint is that it so expensive, but I can understand why. It’s handmade in Switzerland and contains carbon fiber and kevlar. Pretty high tech stuff.

I have been riding the megalight for several years, and flat out its the fastest board going. high speed stability, good in the steep/deep stuff. Not a park pimp, so you little rail hopin freestylers need not apply. This board is not for beginners, but middle of the road and up will make this thing sing. Only beef is the swiss make a sweet ride, but it does not stand up to a good CO beating. I had one warranty out and the next one looked like a year old in a month. THis is a quiver board, but essential none the less, so add it to yours and be happy.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new megalight UG 163w, which seems to be more of a zero camber, I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be the “camrock”, but I just love the zero it seems to be. It is slightly heavier than the previous megalight, but barely. The new ultimate grip is much better and faster than Lib-Tech’s magne-traction. The zero camber is just buttery enough to improve ease of turning, but does not slip like true reverse perhaps would, in any situation. That’s one of the many features of this new design I like the best is that this board is the only one that really is suited for every possible condition, and rocks every one of them. I’m going to boldly give Nidecker a “10″ for price, knowing these boards are perhaps worth even MORE than we are charged. There are so few of them, and this technology must be expensive to engineer and gear for. Let us not compare with Burton’s outrageous price and poor quality of design, eh?
I have never ruined a Nidecker deck, although have put nice dings from rocks (normal for any board), and I own 4 of them, and will buy more. Don’t be stupid! Spend the “extra” money on this board if you find it expensive. It’s worth it, and life is short. DD

Borrowed the Megalight camrock 163 together with the Legend 168 and took them together with my own k2 zeppelin for a testweek in Zillertal, Austria. Had 3 days of fresh pow, then from bluebird to slush. The Megalight impressed me immediately after the first run. light, snappy, carvy, playful, but stable. In powder it’s a class of its own..best allround pow board ever ridden! Zep is more snappy on piste, but by far not as good in the pow, Legend very (almost to) stable for high speeds, but feels heavy and stiff and for me not agile, snappy and playful enough. I’m now looking to buy a megalight..

My favoite board. Ever. They are a little expensive for a poor guy, but you do get what you pay for. I have been riding an original 167 megalight since 2001 when I bought it used from a friend, so I guess it has proven to be pretty durable. It handles faster in the fresh than my jib board, a 154, does in the park. I live in Steamboat, so I have a lot of experience with the lightest to heaviest snows, the most gladed to tightest trees, and everything in between that wind and snow can throw at us. The megalight is fast and easy to handle on all. It is a board that will never steer you, regarless of conditions. Also super duper light for those long backcountry days. You guys should try to make a splitter version of it for sure. Thanks for the memories, Nidecker.

i’ve been riding a megalight solely for now my 6th season. riding for 25. Being a sucker for tight trees, off piste, beating my friends through crud and of course heavy pow at my home mountain of mammoth, the megalight is by far the best board i have ever ridden! i can’t afford not to spend the $ on a new one and yes, i too wish that they were cheaper, but considering their features and performance….who cares? they pale in comparison for power going in and out of the turns to the burton fish. they just have so much stability coming out of the turns and even the tail is smaller you can still hit and land launches with confidence. although light, the bigger, spoonier nose helps you plow through chowder, skate on slush, and go mach 12 to defeat all other riders that are hauling to get to the gondi. it’s the only board i’ve need in the backcountry of canada, alaska and washington. the lightness is a sure pleasure on your feet on the lift and i agree on the splitter version! i’m not even interested in trying anything else (unless it’s free and a slop day) because i’m never going back to anything else! it’s a for sure thing for me! thanks nidecker. the only problem is waiting for your friends. ha!

The Niedecker Megalight is like a Ferrari and the rest of the boards on the market feel like a Chevy or Ford.
If your need a great powder board with a surfey feel- This board feels like a surfboard the carving turns are insane with great float in powder. You can load up on bottom turns and just wail away on the back hand.
This board will blow away the Burton fish or Malolo in powder not to say they are not fun boards. The Niedecker Megalight reminds me of a Burton Malolo on steroids.
The worst thing about this board is it makes regular boards like the Burton, Lib tech/Gnu/ and Never summer, boards feel like just another pop out.
Negatives – it’s too expensive. The board is not supper durable but the weight may be why.
WARNING If you ride this you may have to spend the extra money. It’s too bad they don’t sell for under $500
Bottom line it’s an insane board if you can find it and afford it…

I’m looking at my new camrock 163 megalight I just picked up and can’t ride for 3 weeks due to surgery.I also bought a Rossi kryptos (great board) which I will sell. I’m closer to 60 than 50 so the park is something I watch my grandson tear up. I run a shop at hill in NE Washington, so I have owned Rossi ,Salomon,Burton, Lib tech. The best board for my style of riding trees and open runs was my 2007 167 megalight. I put it in a creek the first day I rode it and cracked the sidewall, epoxyed it and rode for 2 seasons.I sold it to a 6’2′ 240 lbs. semi-employed stoner who still rides it 60 plus days a season(he was told about damage). This a board for riding the mountain ,not the park.I loved my Salomon sick stick and Lib 1986 Mullet, but when pow was gone I was on my Rossi. When I had my Megalight I rode in all conditions. The Megalight is pricey but no more than some Burton’s that don’t have the quality.
